The History of J. Bäumer

Joachim Bäumer took over the wine estate Anderson'sche Weingutsverwaltung in Winkel in the fifties, and developed a wine business during the years of the "economic miracle". He and his team of travelling salesmen devoted themselves to distributing fine wines, particularly Rheingau wines from his own estate. He succeeded in registering his winery under the name J. Bäumer Kellerei Hasensprung, named after the Hasensprung site in Winkel, where he had his largest vineyard holdings.

A few years later, he completely changed professions, took a job in the oil processing field, and searched for a buyer for his wine business. Paul Ress (the father of Stefan Ress, current co-owner of the famous Balthasar Ress estate) ultimately purchased it in 1957, and acquired both its regular customers and sales personnel. At that time, J. Bäumer wines were widely distributed, particularly in European markets. By the 70's they were also successfully exported to numerous markets overseas.

Today the brand J. Bäumer is still used for Rheingau wines, produced by local growers under contract, who work according to the quality standards set forth by the Ress family.
